New quiz over Kofi son By Simon Hughes October 31, 2005 The Sun Original Source: http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2005500629,00.html UN chief Kofi Annan last night faced demands for a further probe into his son and the Iraq oil-for-food scandal. Investigators called for the continuing quiz after citing a mystery payment of more than £8,000 made to Kojo Annan. Kojo is already under the spotlight following revelations that a company which employed him won a £2.46million contract through the UN-administered scheme. Now it can be revealed the payment was made to him by an executive of the firm, Swiss-based Cotecna, two years after the contract was awarded. The money was wired to an account in the name of Vevey Sport, a minor Swiss soccer club where Kojo spent two years as president. Investigators have been told that under his presidency the club brought young African players to train in Switzerland. They moved on to other clubs but Vevey Sport got nothing in transfer fees and went bankrupt. Cotecna insists its payment to Kojo was not linked to the contract. An 18-month inquiry found corruption among UN officials and revealed Saddam stole £1billion. Kofi Annan has also faced calls to quit over the shambolic handling of the aid programme. Tory MP Hugh Robertson said cash stolen by Saddam was being used to fund the insurgency which has killed 97 British and 2,000 US soldiers.
