U.N. peacekeeper in Liberia accused of rape November 28, 2005 CNN Original Source: http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/africa/11/28/un.liberia.ap/index.html MONROVIA, Liberia (AP) -- A U.N. peacekeeping soldier in Liberia has been accused of rape, and the case is being investigated, the world body's mission in the war-battered West African nation said Monday. The alleged rape was reported on November 26, and U.N. and Liberian investigators are looking into the charges, the United Nations said in a statement. No further details were given, and a spokesman couldn't immediately be reached for comment. Liberia's post 1989-2003 war calm is being guarded by the United Nations, whose peacekeepers have been accused of sex crimes in many other conflict zones ranging from Bosnia and Kosovo to Cambodia, East Timor and Congo. Some 15,000 U.N. peacekeepers from many nations are providing security in Liberia.
