China against sanctions on Iran nuclear issue October 30, 2007 Xinhua Original Source: http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2007-10/30/content_6975644.htm BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said Tuesday that sanctions should not be used to resolve the Iran nuclear issue and diplomatic negotiation is a best solution. China has always believed that the unbridled use of sanctions should not be encouraged in dealing with international relations. We hold that a peaceful solution to the Iran nuclear issue through diplomatic negotiation is an optimal choice that serves the common interests of the international community, Liu said. Liu's remarks came as visiting Israeli Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni called on China to back new sanctions against Iran. Relevant parties are seeking dialogue with Iran to solve the issue. At this moment, we should all the more avoid using sanctions so as not to further complicate the issue, Liu said.
