Palestinian Rocket Attack Launched From U.N.-Run School In Gaza By Paul Icamina November 8, 2007 All Headlines News.com Original Source: http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7009101470 New York, NY (AHN) - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has been ordered to investigate a rocket attack against Israel allegedly launched by Palestinian militants from inside an empty U.N. school in the Gaza Strip. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday condemned and asked for a full investigation of the latest abuse of U.N. facilities, saying it was a serious violation of the UN's privileges and immunities. Inquiries made so far indicate that the school had been evacuated at the time of the rocket attack to ensure the safety of both the staff and the pupils during an Israeli military incursion, the U.N. said in a press statement. Palestinian militants entered the school while it was empty and then fired rockets from the compound, it said. Ban called on all involved to avoid actions that endanger the lives of civilians, especially children, and that put at risk UNRWA's ability to carry out its humanitarian mission, said U.N. spokesperson Marie Okabe. UNRWA Commissioner-General Karen Koning AbuZayd said the installations of the agency, tasked to assist Palestinian refugees, had also been violated in the past and it had complained many times to both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict about the incidents.
