UN forces labeled 'cowards' by Ramos-Horta's brother February 14, 2008 ABC News Original Source: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/02/14/2163293.htm?section=world The brother of Jose Ramos Horta says the United Nations security forces failed to adequately protect the East Timorese President Jose Ramos-Horta. Arsenio Ramos-Horta was with his brother after Monday's assassination attempt in Dili. He referred to the UN forces as cowards and accused them of hiding from bullets while he cradled the President's head in his arms. He also said that after speaking to doctors, the family is now more confident the President will make a full recovery. But Arsenio Ramos-Horta says when the President finally hears that Alfredo Reinado has been shot dead he will not be sympathetic. He tried his best to have the dialogue to run a dialogue with him but I mean the guy was crazy they should have stopped him, he said. They should have had more careful, more back-up protection but I believe the UN security operators failed completely on that side. Arsenio Ramos-Horta also says Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is welcome to visit his brother, even though only immediate family have been allowed to do so. I believe we had that special occasion when he visit in Dili. We will allow him, he said. All the hospitality given to us by Australian Government. We just can't refuse it.
