Iran To Continue Uranium Enrichment, Cites Clearance By U.N. Nuclear Agency By Jupiter Kalambakal April 5, 2008 AHN Original Source: http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7010547799 Tehran, Iran (AHN)- Iranian government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham said Saturday that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has no plans of discontinuing his government's nuclear program despite economic incentives offered by Western countries. Iran will continue with its uranium enrichment activities, which is intended for peaceful purposes according to IRNA. Elham said the nuclear activity is to meet energy demands in Iran by generating 20,000 megawatt of nuclear power. He reiterated that the nuclear program is within the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations' nuclear watchdog, its regulations and safeguards. Iran was given clearance by the IAEA on Feb. 22. Iran does not trade its rights in return for incentives. It is not reasonable to replace the Agency with some countries which themselves possess nuclear weapons, Elham was quoted as saying during a news conference by the Agency Press France. The U.N. Security Council last month imposed stricter sanctions on Iran for its nuclear program. Nation members of the council composed of Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany have offered economic incentives to Iran to stop uranium enrichment.
