Iranian President to Attend U.N. Assembly By Stewart Stogel June 5, 2008 Newsmax Original Source: http://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/Iranian_President_un/2008/06/05/102053.html UNITED NATIONS -- Diplomatic sources at the United Nations tell NewsMax that Iran's controversial president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad intends to attend the 2008 General Assembly which begins September 23. The visit will be Ahamdinejad's fourth since he assumed office in 2005. Last year's visit was marked by numerous protests around NYC including a confrontation between the Iranian leader and the president of Columbia University where he was a guest lecturer. Jewish leaders tell NewsMax that they intend to welcome the Iranian in much the same way they did last year. Ahamdinejad's visit comes as his government's resistance to Security Council demands to halt uranium enrichment continues under the threat of new sanctions and new promises by Washington and Jerusalem to prevent Iran from developing any nuclear weapon.
