The figure for the damage from the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah is based on calculations by the World Bank, Lebanese media reported over the weekend. The figure covers environmental and physical damage, including damage to Lebanon's coastline from an oil spill suffered when Israel bombed the Jivyeh power station. Lebanon's daily Al-Akhbar newspaper said Sunday that U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will present a report on the oil spill during an upcoming meeting of the U.N. General Assembly. The U.N. first called for Israel to pay compensation for the 2006 war in August 2007.
