Today we finalise the committee on Palestine and I think we have now a clearer picture where we are standing: It was a very helpful professional process and the conclusion is that there is no majority for the admission of Palestine to the UN and that there is a threat of a veto.
We think the Palestinians should now weigh their options and reconsider what to do. My country – that’s very well known –  is very much in favour of a Palestinian state and UN membership as a  result of a two state solution. So we’ll see how we take it from here but I think the picture is clear that there is no majority here for admission.
