The head of the U.N. atomic agency is urging leading member states to come up with the extra funds the agency needs to monitor Iran's compliance with its landmark nuclear deal.
Yukiya Amano spoke Friday at the start of a meeting of his International Atomic Energy Agency's 35-nation board of governors.
Iran is to curb its nuclear activities under terms of the deal agreed with six world powers, and both sides agreed that the IAEA is to ensure that Tehran is abiding by its commitments. Friday's IAEA board session is expected to approve that agency role.
Amano urged board members to come up with the approximately 5.5 million euros ($7.5 million) the agency will need in outside funding for its new mission.
