MR. ABDELBARI (SUDAN): In the name of God the merciful, the compassionate, Mr. President, the question on Palestine is undoubtedly a focal point for the entire world and lies at the essence of the conflict in the Middle East. The Palestinian tragedy has become a tragedy for the human conscience. The deteriorating security situation and the continued escalation of violence speaks loudly to every human conscience and calls for a firm stance against Israeli arrogance and intransigence. Mr. President, the high-handed attitude utilized by Israel regarding the resolutions of international legitimacy on one hand, and the leniency of the international community, on the other hand, have tempted it to commit massacres and barbaric actions against civilians and unarmed innocent people in all Palestinian areas, particularly in the Gaza Strip after the so-called withdrawal. It even tempted Israel to brutalize the Palestinian people in complete impunity and reject all related international resolutions. Mr. President, the steadfast Palestinian people continues to face unjust Israeli practices and policies. Homes are demolished while their inhabitants are in there. Lands are confiscated. Youth, elderly, children and women all unarmed Palestinians are being killed. More importantly and seriously is that Israel continues to construct its illegal wall on the usurped Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem. Israel continues its wanton aggression in the form of destroying homes and confiscating land in clear and direct violation of international law -- international humanitarian law and other international human rights documents. Israel also persists in its disregard and lack of respect to General Assembly resolution 15 of the emergency -- of the tenth emergency special session as well as the advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice on the wall that Israel is constructing and declaring that it is an illegal wall and calling for Israel to cease its construction forthwith and abolish all legislation related to and make recompense for those who have been harmed by it. Mr. President, the credibility of the organization -- of this organization should be reflected in its ability to maintain the charter and implement international law. The fact that this question remains without settlement testifies to the fact that there is a policy of double standard and selectivity in the application of Security Council resolutions and international legitimacy represented by your august assembly and the economic and social council. Also testify to this shameful silence vis-à-vis a clear violation of the United Nations charter, the principles of international humanitarian law, particularly the fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 and the Hague Conventions of 1899, 1907, and other agreements. Mr. President, it is incumbent upon all concerned to oblige Israel to fully withdraw from Arab territories occupied since the June 4 1967 including Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan and the Lebanese Shebaa Farms in implementation of the principle of land for peace and in realization of Security Council resolutions and General Assembly-relevant resolutions, foremost of which resolutions 181, 242, 338 and 1397, and the decisions of Oslo and Madrid and other Security Council decisions in addition to the road map that has been agreed to by all. Mr. President, my delegation would like to urge the international community and its member states to urgently provide the economic and technical assistance to the Palestinian people and its national authority during this delicate phase in order to assist in alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people and enable it to reconstruct its economy and the basic infrastructure of the state of Palestine. We would also like to reiterate our firm position in support of the Palestinian cause and in support of draft resolutions submitted before the General Assembly in this regard. We would also like to urge the member states to take the same positions that they have traditionally taken in the past. Thank you Mr. President.
