Sixtieth session Agenda item 124 Proposed programme budget for the biennium 2006-2007 Request for a subvention to the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research resulting from the recommendations of the Board of Trustees of the Institute on the work programme of the Institute for 2006 Ninth report of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions 1. The Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions has considered the note by the Secretary-General (A/C.5/60/3) on the request for a subvention of $476,500 (before recosting) to the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) resulting from the recommendation of the Board of Trustees of the Institute on the work programme of the Institute for 2005 and 2006. 2. The subvention is used towards the costs for the Director and administration. The Advisory Committee was informed that for 2005, as has been the case since 2002, the subvention has been cost-adjusted to take into account inflation and currency changes. 3. The General Assembly, in its resolution 59/276 of 23 December 2004, requested the Secretary-General to make proposals in the context of the proposed programme budget for the biennium 2006-2007 for biennial review and approval by the General Assembly of subvention requirements of the Institute beginning with the biennium 2006-2007. The note by the Secretary-General presents requests for the full biennium 2006-2007 in accordance with resolution 59/276 and is consistent with what is contained in the proposed programme budget 2006-2007, which includes, under section 4, Disarmament (A/60/6 (Sect. 4)), a provision for $476,500 representing the United Nations subvention to UNIDIR for 2006-2007. 4. The Advisory Committee recommends that the General Assembly approve the request of $476,500 (before recosting) for UNIDIR for 2005; no additional provision would be required under section 4 of the proposed programme budget for 2006-2007. \* MERGEFORMAT 1 \* MERGEFORMAT 1 United Nations A/60/7/Add.8 General Assembly Distr.: General 2 November 2005 Original: English 05-58489 (E) 031105 *0558489* A/60/7/Add.8 A/60/7/Add.8
