THE PRESIDENT OF THE - ~ GENERAL ASSEMBLY 8 February 2016 Excellency, As you are aware, the Secretary-General on 15 January 2016 infonnally briefed Members about his proposed Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism (Al70/674 - Al70/675). At the same briefing, I recalled my intention to organize a fonnal plenary debate of the General Assembly as well as my intention to consult widely on how best to take this important contribution forward. As announced in the UN Journal, I am pleased to confinn that the fonnal plenary debate ofthe General Assembly will take place this coming Friday, 12 February 2016, at 10 AM in the General Assembly Hall. For delegations wishing to inscribe on the list of speakers for this debate, please refer to the UN Journal. Further to extensive consultations with the membership and infonned by their views about possible next steps with regard to the Secretary-General's proposed Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism (Al70/674 - Al70/675), it is my intention to table a short, procedural draft resolution on this topic for action by the General Assembly at the debate, the text of which is attached.
