PALESTINIAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE, PERMANENT OBSERVER MISSION TO HOST SPECIAL SCREENING OF DOCUMENTARY `ARAFAT' AT HEADQUARTERS, 20 MARCH March 20, 2013 UN Dept. of Public Information http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs//2013/note6385.doc.htm The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People and the Permanent Observer Mission of the State of Palestine are pleased to announce a special screening of the documentary Arafat, dedicated to the leadership and legacy of the Palestinian leader whose name has become synonymous with a life-long struggle for the legitimate Palestinian rights. This 90-minute film provides a comprehensive look at Yasser Arafat's journey through exclusive testimonies from his old brothers-in-arms and rare archival footage. Arafat is also a commanding account of the complicated Arab and international political dynamics of the time. It transports the viewer from mandatory Palestine to the 1948 war, the founding of the Fatah movement, the different phases of its struggle, both military and diplomatic, until the day when Arafat was laid to rest in Ramallah. The premiere will be screened in the Economic and Social Council Chamber, North Lawn Building, at 3 p.m. on 20 March. Sahar Baassiri, a Lebanese journalist who wrote and co-produced Arafat, in collaboration with the Yasser Arafat Foundation of Ramallah, will deliver introductory remarks. Permanent Mission and Secretariat staff, accredited non-governmental organizations and media are all invited to the event.
