(Check before delivery) Bangladesh Statement Agenda 7 Thank you Mr. President. Bangladesh delegation welcomes and appreciates Mr. Richard Falk, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territories occupied since 1967, for his works during his tenure. My delegation conveys our deep concern and regret at the continued non-cooperation of the Israeli authorities with the mandate holder and the consistent failure of Israeli authorities to comply with clear legal standards embodied in international human rights law and humanitarian law including the Geneva Convention. We are deeply concerned, in particular, by the situation of the beleaguered children of Gaza, who comprise over half of the population of Gaza. Mr. President, Bangladesh delegation agrees with most of the recommendations made by the SR. In particular, we believe that his recommendation to comprehensively investigate and take appropriate action to end the business activities of companies and financial institutions which profit from the settlements of Israel and other unlawful Israeli activities, and ensure appropriate reparation for affected Palestinians needs to be taken up by the international community. We believe that his recommendation on future investigations to consider the problematic connection of foreign corporates with unlawful occupation policies of israeli authorities, has merit also for action in the context of the ethical, moral and social responsibilities of transnational companies. Mr. President, we believe that it is imperative that such important mandate holder as this should have thorough and in-depth understanding of the background and the situation as well as the culture and history of the area and should be able to work with full objectivity. Mr. Falk has been able to successfully demonstrate that in-depth understanding of the situation. He has done an outstanding work despite the obstacles faced by him. We wish him well.
