CTED returns to MOROCCO http://www.un.org/en/sc/ctc/news/2013-03-26_morocco.html A CTED delegation returned to Morocco eight years after its previous visit, in order to follow up on the recommendations it made in 2005 on behalf of the Counter-Terrorism Committee. Mr. Mike Smith, CTED Executive Director, led the delegation that also included experts from several regional and international organizations. The delegation discussed with Ambassador Nasser Bourita, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation; several senior Government officials; and technical experts Morocco’s implementation of Security Council resolution 1373 (2001) and issues relating to resolution 1624 (2005). The discussions focused on legislative measures to counter terrorism, the criminal justice system, combating the financing of terrorism, law enforcement and border control, relevant human rights issues, the identification of further technical assistance needs, as well as areas in which Morocco could provide technical assistance to other States and share best practices. Morocco assumed the chairmanship of the Counter-Terrorism Committee in January 2013. To date, the Counter-Terrorism Committee has concluded over 70 country visits. Morocco was the first country they visited in 2005.
