Security Council Committee established 
pursuant to resolution 1718 (2006) concerning 
the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea


		Letter dated 23 January 2007 from the Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations addressed to the Chairman of the Committee


	I have the honour to refer to Security Council resolution 1718 (2006) on measures against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in connection with its nuclear weapons tests, in which the Council requested all Member States to report to the Security Council on the steps they have taken to implement the measures imposed in paragraph 8 aimed at preventing the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea from pursuing its nuclear weapons programme.
	In this connection, the Government of the United Arab Emirates wishes to reiterate its commitment to the implementation of the above-mentioned Security Council resolution, particularly paragraph 8, and would like to inform the Committee that a number of measures have been taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates in this regard, which include the following:
	1.	The above-mentioned resolution has been circulated to all concerned authorities. Reports on the functioning of mechanisms developed for its implementation were requested from those authorities;
	2.	Instructions were also given to all customs posts to prevent the supply, sale or transfer of any weapons or related material through any ships or craft departing the United Arab Emirates.
	The Central Bank and other security agencies in the United Arab Emirates would appreciate receiving a list of the persons and entities identified by the Committee who will be subject to the sanctions and measures referred to in paragraph 8 of resolution 1718 in order to take the necessary action.
