United Nations A/61/1034S/2007/519 Distr.: General 31 August 2007 Original: English General Assembly Security Council General Assembly Sixty-first session Agenda item 13 The situation in the Middle East Security Council Sixty-second year Identical letters dated 30 August 2007 from the Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council On instructions from my Government, I have the honour to transmit to you herewith a summary of violations of the Blue Line, covering roughly the past two months, from 19 June 2007 through 21 August 2007 (see annex). Though the summary only contains data from the recent period, it is important to note that the violation report is part of a running total of violations of the Blue Line, numbering 465, since the beginning of the ceasefire on 14 August 2006. Israel remains concerned about the developing situation along the Blue Line, reconfirmed by incidents of the past few months. The rearming of Hizbullah is a significant and pressing danger. As such, all efforts should be made to ensure the full implementation of Security Council resolution 1701 (2006). Specifically, Israel's concerns centre on the presence of armed Hizbullah elements south of the Litani River and the violation of the embargo and transfer of weapons from Syria to Hizbullah in Lebanon. Israel is also concerned that some of those weapons are destined for southern Lebanon. Additionally, the two Israeli soldiers kidnapped by Hizbullah on 12 July 2006, Udi Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, have yet to be released, as called for by the Security Council in its resolution 1701 (2006), nor has any sign of life been given. I should be grateful if you would have the present letter and its annex circulated as a document of the sixty-first session of the General Assembly, under agenda item 13, and of the Security Council.
