Group of experts on the situation of human rights in Darfur The Human Rights Council, Recalling its resolution 4/8 of 30 March 2007, 1. Welcomes the final report on the situation of human rights in Darfur prepared by the group of experts mandated by the Council in its resolution 4/8 (A/HRC/6/19); 2. Acknowledges the cooperation of the Government of the Sudan and welcomes the open and constructive dialogue between the Government and the group of experts; 3. Acknowledges the efforts made by the Government of the Sudan to implement the recommendations identified by the group of experts, but expresses its concern that most recommendations have not yet been fully implemented nor have led to an improvement of the situation of human rights in Darfur, and that the Government has declined to implement several recommendations; 4. Expresses particular concern at the fact that the perpetrators of past and ongoing serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in Darfur have not yet been held accountable for their crimes and urges the Government of the Sudan to address urgently the question of impunity by thoroughly investigating all allegations of human rights and international humanitarian law violations, promptly bringing to justice the perpetrators of these violations and cooperating with the International Criminal Court; 5. Urges the Government of the Sudan to continue and to intensify its efforts to implement without delay the recommendations identified by the group of experts in accordance with the specified time frames and indicators; 6. Invites relevant United Nations bodies and agencies, including the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, to continue providing support and technical assistance to the Sudan for the implementation of these recommendations and calls upon donors to also continue providing financial and technical assistance in this regard; 7. Reiterates its call upon all parties to put an end to all acts of violence against civilians, with special focus on vulnerable groups, including women, children and internally displaced persons, as well as human rights defenders and humanitarian workers; 8. Decides to renew until 20 June 2008 the mandate of the group of experts on the situation of human rights in Darfur, presided by the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Sudan and composed of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for children and armed conflict, the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary on arbitrary executions, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on the situation of human rights defenders, the Representative of the Secretary-General on the human rights of internally displaced persons, the Special Rapporteur on the question of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment and the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, in order for it to: (a) Continue to ensure the effective follow-up and implementation of the short-term recommendations identified in its first report (A/HRC/5/6) and assess their impact in the situation of human rights in Darfur, through open and constructive dialogue with the Government of the Sudan; (b) Ensure the effective follow-up and implementation of the medium-term recommendations identified in its first report and assess their impact in the situation of human rights in Darfur, through open and constructive dialogue with the Government of the Sudan; (c) Visit Darfur, at the invitation of the Government of the Sudan, to assess the status of the implementation and impact of the group’s recommendations; (d) Report on the status of the implementation and impact of its recommendations to the Human Rights Council at its eighth session. ----- * Non-member States of the Human Rights Council.
