Reaffirming that all Member States have an obligation to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms as stated in the Charter of the United Nations, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenants on Human Rights and other applicable human rights instruments, Reaffirming also Commission on Human Rights resolution 1992/58 of 3 March 1992 and all subsequent resolutions adopted by the General Assembly, the Commission on Human Rights as well as from Human Rights Council on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, Recalling General Assembly resolution 60/251 of 15 March 2006, Recalling also resolutions 5/1 “Institution-building of the United Nations Human Rights Council” and 5/2 “Code of Conduct for Special Procedures Mandate-Holders of the Human Rights Council” of 18 June 2007 and stressing that the mandate-holder shall discharge his/her duties in accordance with these resolutions and their annexes, Bearing in mind the report submitted by the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Myanmar, (A/HRC/6/14 form 7 December 2007) expressing serious concern about ongoing human rights violations and urging the implementation of the recommendations contained therein, Having reviewed the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Myanmar, 1. Decides to extend for one year the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Myanmar in accordance with Commission on Human Rights resolution 1992/58 of 3 March 1992 and 2005/11; 2. Urges the Government of the Myanmar to cooperate fully with the Special Rapporteur and to respond favourably to his/her requests to visit the Myanmar and to provide him/her with all necessary information and access to relevant bodies and institutions, so as to enable him/her to fulfill his/her mandate effectively; 3. Also requests the Special Rapporteur to submit his/her progress report to the sixty-third session of the General Assembly and to the Human Rights Council in accordance with the Annual Program of work of the Human Rights Council; 4. Calls upon the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights to provide the Special Rapporteur with all necessary assistance and resources to enable him/her to discharge his/her mandate fully; 5.
