Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 56/206, the Economic and Social Council is to elect, at its resumed organizational session for 2008, 19 members of the Governing Council of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme for a four-year term beginning on 1 January 2009 to fill the vacancies that will occur on 31 December 2008 upon the expiration of the terms of the following members: Antigua and Barbuda, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Ghana, Haiti, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Norway, Rwanda, Slovakia, Sweden, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, United Arab Emirates and United Republic of Tanzania as well as a member from the Asian States group, whose seat remains vacant. 2. In accordance with paragraph 4 of section I.A of General Assembly resolution 56/206, the 19 members are to be elected on the following basis: · Five seats for African States · Four seats for Asian States · Two seats for Eastern European States · Three seats for Latin American and Caribbean States · Five seats for Western European and other States. 3.
