Draft Statement by the Delegation of Algeria on behalf of Nan Aligned Movement, at the meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Revitalization of the General Assembly Monday, 27 July 2009. Distinguished Co-Chairs, I have the honor to speak on behalf of the Non Aligned Movement. At the outset, 1 would like to thank you for convening this meeting on the revitalization of the general Assembly, and to express appreciation of the NAM for your efforts, since the inaugural meeting held on 15 April 2009, and the good spirit of the debates characterized by transparency and inclusiveness. Your efforts are especially reflected into the synopsis document sent to the delegations recently. The NAM appreciates the work of the Co-Chairs in this regard. The synopsis of the three thematic debates held so far is well-balanced, comprehensive and covers generally the proposals, recommendations and views expressed by the member States. Distinguished Co-Chairs, The NAM reiterates that the primary objective of the revitalization of the work of the General Assembly is to continue to strengthen the Central role and position of the General Assembly as the chief deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the United Nations, taking into account the criteria of relevance and efficiency, and including by reaffirming its prerogatives regarding administrative and budgetary issues. Along those lines the NAM expresses its readiness to continue to support all ongoing and continuous efforts to achieve substantive and tangible results, inter alia during this Sixty-third Session. For that purpose, the NAM is of the view that due to the time constraint we should be efficient, and the next phase of our work should be concentrated on the process of working out the elements of a resolution to be adopted before the end of the Sixty-third session. The NAM would like to propose that the upcoming meeting of the Group be dedicated to the resolution. The elements of the language could be carefully selected by the delegations from the synopsis under consideration. The NAM also believes that a part of synopsis dedicated to the conclusions could be enhanced and deepens in the process of our endeavor. Distinguished Co-Chairs, The NAM stresses the importance of fully implementing all previous General Assembly resolutions on revitalization. The Chart presented during the Sixty-second session still constitutes, in our view, a good basis for continuing efforts in this regard. Finally, the NAM, while reaffirming its previous positions on the subject, looks forward the guidance of the Co-Chairs, and stands ready to work with all delegations with the view of reaching a fruitful outcome during this Sixty-third Session. ' I thank you.
