Explanation of Vote (EOV) by Argentina before the General Assembly 64th Session Vote on Report of Fact Finding Mission on Gaza Conflict New York( 5 November 2009 [ET: 1:26-1:58] ARGENTINIAN REPRESENTATIVE: Thank you Mr. President. Argentina recognize s the right of the Palestinian people to self determination and to have an independent and viable state. It also recognizes by the same token the right of the state of Israel to live in peace together with its neighbors within secure and internationally recognized borders. And without a doubt, Argentina would like to see a viable and effective peace process move forward in the Middle East. With this in mind, we would like to highlight as a positive element of the resolution that this General Assembly just adopted the appeal to all sides to investigate the allegations of violations of human rights and the international humanitarian law that occurred during the Gaza conflict. Argentina, Mr. President, would like to emphasize that we share, generally speaking, the conclusions of the Goldstone report and the conclusions of the fact-finding mission, as well as the conclusions of the first periodic report prepared by the High Commission of the United Nations for Human Rights, especially its emphasis on the need to combat impunity through the investigation of the facts and the trial of the perpetrators. That being said, Argentina does wish to highlight that we continue to consider that the recommendations contained in the report of the fact-finding mission require a level-headed analysis given its implications and given the complexity and difficulty of implementing some of them. Mr. President, thank you very much.
