Explanation of Vote (EOV) by Albania before the General Assembly 64th Session Vote on Report of Fact Finding Mission on Gaza Conflict New York( 5 November 2009 ALBANIAN REPRESENTATIVE: Albania voted in favor of this resolution with a firm trust that t his call would bring the international community one step closer to ensure the full respect for the human life and dignity, for the fulfillment of justice for those who lost their lives in those tragic events and for those who are genuinely striving to build a peaceful future. This resolution is not and should not be seen as a condemnation of anyone. To the contrary, we indeed see in this resolution opportunity to strengthen peace by justice. We hope that the events of 2008 will not repeat and will serve as a reminder of the vital need to respect each other's fundamental rights for peaceful existence and prosperity. We could not remain silent observers when a UN fact-finding mission reports grave violations of international humanitarian law, independent by which party they have been committed. Both parties involved need to pursue a thorough, independent investigation that will serve first and foremost to them, will serve to all of us, and most importantly, will serve to reconciliation and peace, a goal the world has been pursuing for decades, unfortunately without great results. Albania voted based on the principal that the pursuit of justice and trust, the respect for the international humanitarian law, as well as the need to end impunity are fundamental for the development of a healthy democracy and peace-building process within and amongst societies, countries and regions of the world. I thank you Mr. President.
