Explanation of Vote (EOV) by Mexico before the General Assembly 64th Session Vote on Report of Fact Finding Mission on Gaza Conflict New York( 5 November 2009 MEXICAN REPRESENTATIVE: Mr. President, Mexico voted in favor of the draft resolution A/64/L1 1 because we acknowledged the need to conduct credible and independent investigations by all the parties involved in the Gaza conflict, and we would like to reiterate how important it is to prevent impunity, to guarantee justice, to promote peace and to deter new violations being committed. However, we would have preferred different language rather than the endorses [sic] that can be found in the report of the Human Rights Council, which repeats it in the first operative paragraph of this resolution in order to obtain greater support of the General Assembly by a larger number of member states. Mexico reiterates its conviction that we need to support efforts of the United Nations to guarantee accountability with respect to violations against human rights and international humanitarian law. Our vote is in favor of accountability and not in favor of all the recommendations contained in this report. Thank you very much Mr. President.
