Vote on Report of Fact Finding Mission on Gaza Conflict

GUATEMALAN REPRESENTATIVE:  Thank you very much Mr. President.  Guatemala voted in favor o
f the resolution just adopted.  It was a decision that we had to consider very carefully because as other delegations in this room, we noted in the report of the fact-finding mission of the United Nations on the Gaza conflict, we noted certain flaws that the authors of the report recognize and acknowledge themselves.  
That being said, we value the fact that the mission acknowledged the complexity of the situation and condemned both sides for serious violations of human rights of civilians in Gaza.  Through our vote, we would like to reiterate our rejection of impunity, as well as our unquestionable commitment to achieve a lasting peace in the Middle East, which leads to the creation of a sovereign, independent and viable Palestinian state within secure and recognized borders, just as its neighbor, the state of Israel.  Thank you very much, Mr. President.
