Vote on Report of Fact Finding Mission on Gaza Conflict

SWISS REPRESENTATIVE:  Mr. President, Switzerland was in favor of the resolution for thr
ee main reasons.  The first reason is that we consider that the nature of the conclusions in the independent fact-finding mission requires a monitoring of the international community.  The resolution is an important step in this direction.  
Secondly, combating impunity is crucial because here we're talking about a precondition for sustainable peace and preventing future violations of international law.  
Thirdly, the resolution calls in a balanced way for both parties to carry out independent inquiries in line with international standards.  Thus, it gives a clear signal that this responsibility behooves them, first and foremost.  
Finally, Switzerland has taken due note of the request that necessary measures should be taken to convene a conference of high contracting parties of the Geneva Convention.  Switzerland is available to the high contracting parties.  Thank you very much indeed Mr. President.
