Explanation of Vote on Draft Resolution A/64/L.48 on the Goldstone Report February 26, 2010 ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN: Thank you, Mr. President. As today we have adopted another resolution on the followup to the report of the UN fact-finding mission on Gaza conflict, I would like to explain the position of my delegation on this resolution. We voted in favor of the resolution contained in Document A/64/L.48. However, we want to put on the record our dismay over the lack of meaningful progress on the prosecution of the war criminals committed during the last year s Israeli onslaught against Gaza, and of course, since that day, the Israeli regime continues to defy the will of the international community and persists not only on continuing blockade of the Palestinians in Gaza, but also assaulting the Islamic and Christian holy places in Jerusalem. The Irani -- or the recent Tel Aviv decision to add al-Ibrahimi Mosque in Al-Halib and Bilal Mosque in Bet-u-Lan along with the walls of the old city of Jerusalem to its territory list and the dispatch of its death squad to Dubai to assassinate Mahmoud Mabhouh with fake or fraudulent European passports, if the international community was able to punish those who were responsible for the crimes committed in Gaza, perhaps today we would not have witnessed such new atrocities. Finally, Mr. President, although the adopted resolution is in imbalance and unfair in treating the occupying power of Israel, which committed so many abhorrent crimes, with that of the Palestinian side in equal footing, it still provides some degree of hope for action to be taken by relevant bodies of the United Nations, including the Security Council, in order to put an end to the culture of impunity for the Israeli war crimes and crimes against humanity. Thank you, Mr. President.
