Draft Resolution A/64/L.48 on the Goldstone Report

INDONESIA:  Thank you Mr. President.  My delegation's position is loud and clear.  We support the Goldstone report and would like to have its recommendation fully and consistently implemented.  A comprehensive solution should be established in order to ensure a ... [00:23:06] injustice with regard to the conflict in the Gaza Strip last year.  For that reason, we support the followup to the report of the UN fact-finding mission by the UN organs and bodies.
Mr. President, without doubt, Israel deployed excessive and disproportionate use of force and collective punishment during the Gaza Strip conflict.  It is the people of Gaza who suffered through the war.  They continued to bear the brunt of Israeli aggression.  They are in serious humanitarian distress even as we speak.  Denied access to the basic humanitarian and reconstruction needs.  In effect, they are the continued victim of a process that now appears as if they were an equal contributor to their own punishment.  
We do not believe that a situation of equal treatment of both the perpetrators and victims can be said to be just.  We are concerned, therefore, that the wording of this resolution does not clearly reflect appropriate balance or could ensure that justice will prevail in the near future for the people of Gaza.  Despite this outcome, Mr. President, Indonesia supported the resolution just adopted.  It is our strong wish that it will be fully implemented without any further delay.  I thank you Mr. President.
