		Expenditure authorization for the biennium 2006-2007


		Forty-first report of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions


1.	The Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions has considered the report of the Secretary-General on expenditure authorization for the biennium 2006-2007 (A/60/889).
2.	The Secretary-General recommended that the General Assembly decide to authorize expenditure of the remaining funds appropriated in Assembly resolution 60/247 A.
3.	The Advisory Committee was informed that as at 31 May 2006, an amount of $728.8 million had been expended and that a further $151 million would be expended in June, bringing the total to $879.8 million by the end of June 2006.  The level of the budget appropriated by the General Assembly in its resolution 60/247 A was $3,798,912,500.
4.	On the basis of the figures cited above, it is clear that under the present circumstances the Secretary-General will reach the limit of his spending authority before the end of July 2006.  The General Assembly may wish to take the foregoing into account when it considers any further action pursuant to paragraph 3 of its resolution 60/247 A.
