Academic and Cultural Boycott http://www.foa.org.uk/user/admin Friends of Al-Aqsa  November 3, 2013 http://www.foa.org.uk/campaigns/academic-and-cultural-boycott http://www.foa.org.uk/campaigns/academic-and-cultural-boycott Academic Boycott Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that “Everyone has the right to Education”. Education is the one means by which Palestinians can escape the poverty that Israeli Occupation has enforced upon them. While Israelis have access to educational institutes all over the world, Palestinians are being denied the same rights and freedoms, even within their own territories. Schools and universities routinely face military bombardment. A call to boycott Israeli Academic institutions is being made world-wide to put pressure on Israel to abide by its international obligations and discontinue its campaign of closures and curfews, etc., which make educational continuity impossible for many Palestinians. Compared to the almost total shutdown of Palestinian education as a result of Israeli policies, the effects of this campaign on Israeli academic freedom are trivial.  However, the campaign can effectively address the major issues of a generation of young Palestinians who are being denied their right to education. More information on academic boycott can be found at http://www.pacbi.org/etemplate.php?id=868 \t _blank The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel   Cultural Boycott The sixty-year campaign of destruction of Palestinian culture and education constitutes a deliberate programme to wipe out Palestinian heritage.  Whilst at the same time Israel tries to use cultural programmes to strengthen its own position. The cultural boycott aims to highlight Israel’s violations of international law to an audience which may not be aware of the atrocities committed by Israel.  The cultural boycott exposes Israel’s violations on an international platform, preventing Israel’s efforts to falsely present itself as a normal state. Many musicians and artists have joined the cultural boycott by cancelling tours and refusing to play in Israel. Action: If you know of any artists or academics who are planning on visiting Israel or are being hosted in the UK for an event please inform FOA at mailto:info@aqsa.org info@aqsa.organd we can arrange an appropriate action alert.
