Human Rights Situation in Palestine and Other Occupied Arab Territories

Mr. President,
How is it possible to address human rights violations committed by the State of Israel and suffered by the men and women of Palestine, without mentioning the financial, economic, military and political support received by Israel from powers like the United States of America, the United Kingdom and France?
The latter, tackle today to punish non-governmental organizations calling for a boycott of products imported from Israel by prosecutions instigated by the Chancellery. Freedom of expression is under attack in Israel, it is also in our countries.
We wish here to recall, firstly, that the boycott call was one of the weapons that led to the fall of the apartheid regime in South Africa and secondly, that Israel does not comply with the traceability standards; allowing to distinguish products coming from illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The goal of the campaign launched by a number of organizations in different countries for boycott, divestment and sanctions against the State of Israel aims at nothing more than the immediate cessation of building new Israeli settlements and the immediate lifting of the blockade of the Gaza Strip.
Mr. President,
It seems obvious today that the situation of human rights in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories will not improve until the powers that support the State of Israel will decide to no longer do so.

Monsieur le Président,
Comment aborder les violations des droits humains de la part de l’Etat d’Israël, subies par les hommes et les femmes de Palestine, sans évoquer le soutien financier, économique, militaire et politique des puissances telles que les Etats-Unis d’Amérique, le Royaume-Uni et la France apportent à Israël.
Cette dernière s’attelle aujourd’hui à punir les organisations non-gouvernementales qui appellent au boycott des produits importés depuis l’Etat d’Israël par des procédures judiciaires instiguées par la Chancellerie. La liberté d’expression est attaquée en Israël, elle l’est également chez nous.
Nous voulons rappeler ici, d’une part,  que l’appel au boycott a bien été une des armes qui a conduit à la perte du régime d’apartheid en Afrique du Sud et, d’autre part, qu’Israël ne respecte pas les normes de traçabilité permettant de distinguer les produits en provenance des colonies illégales dans les territoires palestiniens occupés.
La campagne lancée dans plusieurs organisations dans différents pays pour le boycott, le désinvestissement et les sanctions à l’encontre de l’Etat d’Israël vise rien de plus que la cessation immédiate de nouvelles implantations de colons et la cessation immédiate du blocus de la bande de Gaza.
Monsieur le Président,
Il nous paraît évident aujourd’hui que la situation des droits de l’homme en Palestine et dans les autres territoires arabes occupés ne s’améliorera pas tant que les puissances qui soutiennent l’Etat d’Israël n’en auront pas décidé ainsi.
