General Assembly Tenth emergency special session Agenda item 5 Illegal Israeli actions in Occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory Security Council Sixty-first year Identical letters dated 25 May 2006 from the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council I am writing in reference to the letter dated 5 May 2006 from the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations (A/ES-10/330-S/2006/279) in which he provides names of “martyrs” killed by “Israeli occupying forces”. Our recent experience has revealed that all too often those referred to as Palestinian “martyrs” were actually terrorists on their way to perpetrate suicide bombing attacks, fire Qassam rockets or carry out other forms of brutal terrorism. Without referencing the entire list in the Permanent Observer’s letter, allow me, for matters of clarification, to point out one inaccuracy. Contrary to the letter, Thamer Al-Macheharawi and Khaled Said Sanouna were Palestinian police officers, killed on Tuesday, 2 May 2005, by a stray Qassam rocket, intended for Israeli citizens, which was fired by Palestinian terrorists. I should be grateful if you would arrange to have the text of the present letter distributed as a document of the tenth emergency special session of the General Assembly, under agenda item 5, and of the Security Council.
