General Assembly Sixty-first session Agenda items 13 and 14 The situation in the Middle East Question of Palestine Security Council Sixty-second year Identical letters dated 7 March 2007 from the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council I am writing to inform you of an alarming number of terror attacks carried out by Palestinian terrorists operating in the Gaza Strip over the past few weeks. From Monday, 19 February 2007, until Monday, 5 March 2007, 21 rockets were fired by Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip at Israeli communities in the south. Those rocket attacks included the launching of Qassams and mortar shells, seven of which detonated in Israeli territory. Greenhouses were damaged from rocket attacks on 28 February 2007. Just yesterday morning, Tuesday, 6 March 2007, two more rockets were fired by Palestinian terrorists, causing injury to four people and sending countless others to be treated for trauma and shock. The unabated Palestinian terror gravely violates the agreed ceasefire of late November between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and President Mahmoud Abbas. The situation as is threatens the viability of sustainable peace and security in our region. The Hamas Government must adhere to the three conditions of the international community and put an end to the violence and terror against Israel. I should be grateful if you would arrange to have the present letter circulated as a document of the sixty-first session of the General Assembly, under agenda items 13 and 14, and of the Security Council.
