November 18, 2013 Ambassador Samantha Power, US Mission to the United Nations New York, NY SENT BY EMAIL Dear Ambassador Power: I am writing to request that you take immediate steps to ensure access of a US ECOSOC-accredited NGO to an open meeting, convened under the general auspices of the UN General Assembly, at UN New York Headquarters. The meeting will take place in the morning of Monday, November 25th and your attention is therefore needed on an urgent basis. In our capacity as an ECOSOC-accredited NGO, we had requested 18 passes for a short-term 2 day visit to the UN on November 25 and 26, 2013, for the purposes of bringing young Birthright alumni to observe three meetings. However, an extraordinary breach of UN rules committed by members of the UN secretariat in the Security and Safety Service department and the Division for Palestinian Rights has resulted in an original security clearance and admission to one of the meetings having been rescinded. The detailed facts of the case are in an attached letter sent today to the UN Secretary-General and copied to you. All the facts are clearly presented in email correspondence that is also attached, and to which Peggy Kerry in your mission was also a party throughout . I note that all of the requested participants are Jewish and strongly support the fair and equal treatment of the state of Israel a perspective in short supply at the advertised event known as the "UN Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People." The campaign by the UN Division for Palestinian Rights to deny Jewish and pro-Israel NGOs access to the open session, and the willingness of the UN Security office to collaborate and facilitate such an agenda despite having already attested to our compliance with all security needs, is an affront to the UN Charter. Your immediate attention is appreciated.
