Annex to the identical letters dated 24 August 2006 from the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council Subject: Israeli violations and attacks against Lebanon from 0800 hours on 23 August 2006 to 0800 hours on 24 August 2006 Air violations Five air violations by enemy Israeli reconnaissance aircraft and warplanes over various Lebanese areas were recorded involving a total of five reconnaissance aircraft and four warplanes. Land violations Enemy Israeli forces continued to be positioned at a number of border locations inside Lebanese territory. At 0755 hours, a number of explosions were heard from inside the occupied Shab`a farmlands, the cause of which was not known. At 0900 hours, enemy Israeli forces proceeded to position a roadblock in the Rabb al-Talatine — Aadaisse — Markaba triangle and subjected travellers to searches. They detained Husayn al-Husayn and Muhammad al-Husayn, proceeded to place bags over their heads, and led them in the direction of their position in Rabb al-Talatine. At 1130 hours, a number of explosions were heard from inside occupied Shab`a farmlands, the cause of which was not known. Between 1400 hours and 1445 hours, enemy Israeli forces fired a number of artillery shells from their positions in Shab`a farmlands that fell in the district of Shahal (on the outskirts of Shab`a). As a result of the use by the Israeli enemy of cluster bombs against residential areas during their attacks on Lebanon, and after the return of displaced persons, explosions of many of these bombs have been recorded, which has led to the injury of one person during the period in question: Fadl `Ala’ al-Din was slightly injured (he is in non-critical condition) in the town of Majdel Selm. Subject: Israeli violations and attacks against Lebanon from 0800 hours on 22 August 2006 to 0800 hours on 23 August 2006 Air violations Twelve air violations by enemy Israeli reconnaissance aircraft and warplanes over various Lebanese areas were recorded, involving a total of five reconnaissance aircraft, 12 warplanes, and a helicopter. Land violations Enemy Israeli forces continued to be positioned at a number of border locations inside Lebanese territory. Between 0330 hours and 0400 hours, enemy Israeli forces fired a number of flares from their positions in the occupied Shab`a farmlands over the farmlands and over the outskirts of the town of Shab`a alongside the farmlands. Between 2100 and 2210 hours, enemy Israeli forces fired a number of flares over the town of Shab`a and its outskirts. An explosion was heard from inside the occupied Shab`a farmlands, the cause of which was not known. At 0300 hours, enemy Israeli forces fired 20-mm mortar rounds that fell along the Blue Line next to Shab`a below the radar station. They also fired several bursts of medium-machine-gun fire from their position on Radar hill inside the occupied Shab`a farmlands in the direction of the area surrounding the position. At 0435 hours, enemy Israeli forces fired a number of flares over the town of Zebqine. Sea violations As the ship Michael was attempting to depart from the port of Tripoli for Cyprus and was already 45 miles from the coast, the Israeli navy requested it by radio to return to the port of Tripoli. It is currently in the waiting area in the port of Tripoli. Between 2115 and 2130 hours, an Israeli military launch was seen in the waters off the coast at Bayyak.
