STATEMENT BY CUBA, IN ITS CAPACITYAS CIIAIR OF THE COORDINATING BURBAU OF THB NON.ALIGNED MOVEMENT, REGARDING COUNTRY-S PECI FIC RESO LUTIONS IN'THE FIELD OF HUMAN RTGHTS 6TSt SESSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERALASSEMBLY Chairperson, On behalf of the StatesMembers of the Non-Aligned Movement, Cuba reaffirms what our Headsof State and Government agreed at its r4th Summit Conference regarding country-specific resolutions in the field of human rights, and I quote: "The Heads of State or Governmen! re-emphasised that the exploitation of human rights for political purposes, including selective targeting of individual Countries fbr extraneous consid.eiations,*tti.h it contrary to the Founding P-rinciples of the Movement and the UN Charter, should be prohibited". (Reference:Para 44.6 Final Document t4tn NAM Summit, Hauana, Atba tri1 September^zoo6) The Heads of State or Government of the States Members of the Non-Aligned Movement also stressed their "adherenceto the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and to tle Founding principles of the Movement, and oppose and condemn selectivity qnd double standards in the promoti6n and protection of human rights as well as all attempts to exploit human rights as preteit for political potpor"S (Reference:Pqra 454 Final Document t4tn NAM Summit, Hauana, Aria, u-t6 Sepiembe, ,iroq Cub1, in its capacity as Chair of the Non-Aligned Movement, encouragesall Members of the Movement to adhere to these principles when casting their votes on the countfu-specific draft resolutions to be taken action on during this meeting of the Third Committee of the Cenerafessembly.
