Human Rights Council, Fourth Session March 15, 2007 Report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights- Interactive Dialogue Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Second Right of Reply Mr. President, my delegation once again rejects Japanese delegation’s. The resolution Japan refers to is the product of dirty political and monetary lobby by the Japanese aimed at naming and shaming DPRK. First on the abduction case of the Japanese which is the only one of its kind has been fundamentally and completely resolved. No more for further clarification or discussion at all. Second, the only outstanding problem in DPRK-Japan relations is the moral and legal responsibility of the Japanese to start settling all past and present crimes such as the 8.4 million abduction, 1 million genocidal killing, and 200,000 sexual slavery. Germany had sincerely settled its past but Japan did not unfortunately. Instead, Japan continues to deny its past crimes as evidenced by the recent Japanese Prime Minister who said, “No admission. No apology.” Japan’s refusal to admit past crimes is indicative of its intention to just repeat such a past crime as evidenced in Japan today where rampant repression and discrimination of all kinds are taking place, targeting the Koreans in spite of the Japanese excuses that have just been made. We once again urge the Japanese to settle its past and present crimes. I thank you, Mr. President.
