Dr.MakarimWibisono ExecutiveDirector,ASEANFoundation (17January2011 16January2014) Dr. Makarim Wibisono Government and in the academe. As a Diplomat, Dr. Wibisono was a former Indonesian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York and Geneva. He also served as Ambassador of Indonesia to some Central American countries. He was also Director-General for Foreign Affairs Economic Relations (2000-2002), and Director for Multilateral Economic Cooperation (1993-1994) of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As Director-General for Asia Pacific and Africa (2002-2004), he negotiated and helped finalize the Bali Concord II which effectively created the ASEAN Community. He led the Indonesian Delegation to the Senior Officials Meetings of ASEAN, ASEAN+3, ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and APEC. Prior to assuming his post at the ASEAN Foundation, Dr. Wibisono was Chairman of the Governing Board of the Indonesian Council on World Affairs, Senior Advisor on International Cooperation to the Minister of Health of Indonesia, Advisor to the National Commission of Human Rights, and Senior Advisor on International Affairs to the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Indonesia. In the United Nations, Dr. Wibisono held senior level positions in various capacities such as Chairman st of the 61 United Nations Commission on Human Rights (2005), the Counter Terrorism Task Force (2003-2004), the Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti (1999), Group 77 and China at the United Nations th Economic and Social Council (1998), the 11 Session of the UNCTAD Commission on Investment (2007-2008), the World Peace Assembly 2000 on Interreligious Dialogue Among Civilizations (2000), and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Working Group on Disarmament (1997-2001). He also served as President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). In addition, Dr. Wibisono served as member and advisor to various UN Task Forces. Aside from his government and diplomatic stint, Dr. Wibisono is also active in the private sector and academe being an advisor to the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), the Partnership of Governance Reform Foundation, Third World Network and was a Board Member of the Gadjah Mada University, Indonesian Cultural Foundation, New York and Editor of Ekspress News magazine, Indonesia. Dr. Wibisono is a lecturer at the National Defense Institute, the Paramadina University, the Atma Jaya Catholic University, the University of Al Azhar, Indonesia and the Gadjah Mada University. Dr. Wibisono holds a PhD in Political Science from the Ohio State University in the United States where he also acquire International Relations from the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), John Hopkins University in the United States and Doctorrandus in International Relations from the Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia.
