Sixtieth session Agenda item 124 Programme budget for the biennium 2006-2007 Expenditure authorization for the biennium 2006-2007 Report of the Secretary-General 1. The General Assembly, in its resolution 60/247 A, appropriated an amount of $3,798,912,500 for the programme budget for 2006-2007 and authorized the Secretary-General, under paragraph 3, to enter into expenditure of a first tranche, limited to $950 million, as an exceptional measure. Further, the Assembly decided that “in order to ensure the availability of resources for programme delivery, [it] will act in response to a request from the Secretary-General, at an appropriate time, for expenditure of the remaining funds”. 2. In view of the level of authorized expenditure and related charges against the provisions, it is the view of the Secretary-General that the time has now come to request that authorization be granted for entry into expenditure above $950 million and up to the level of $3,798,912,500 as appropriated by the Assembly in it resolution 60/247 A. 3. Accordingly, it is recommended that the General Assembly adopt a decision along the following lines: The General Assembly, having considered the report of the Secretary-General issued pursuant to paragraph 3 of its resolution 60/247 A, decides to authorize expenditure of the remaining funds appropriated in that resolution. sss1 \* MERGEFORMAT A/60/889 sss1 \* MERGEFORMAT A/60/889 \* MERGEFORMAT 2 FooterJN \* MERGEFORMAT 06-39129 FooterJN \* MERGEFORMAT 06-39129 \* MERGEFORMAT 1 United Nations A/60/889 General Assembly Distr.: General 16 June 2006 Original: English jobn \* MERGEFORMAT 06-39129 (F) 160606 Barcode \* MERGEFORMAT *0639129*
