Letter dated 29 January 2007 from the Secretary-General addressed to the President of the Security Council


	I have the honour to refer to resolution 1735 (2006), adopted by the Security Council on 22 December 2006, concerning the Al-Qaida and Taliban sanctions regime. In paragraph 32 of that resolution, the Security Council decided to extend the mandate of the New York-based Monitoring Team, appointed pursuant to paragraph 20 of resolution 1617 (2005), for a period of 18 months. The Council also requested me to make the necessary arrangements to that effect.
	Accordingly, I wish to inform you that I have reappointed the following seven experts for a period ending on 30 June 2008. Efforts are being made to identify a replacement of the eighth expert. Once this candidate has been identified, I will take the appropriate action.
	1.	Mr. Richard Barrett (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)
	2.	Ms. Christine Lee (Singapore)
	3.	Mr. John E. Smith (United States of America)
	4.	Mr. Wilson C. Kalumba (Zambia)
	5.	Mr. Victor Shtoyunda (Russian Federation)
	6.	Mr. Franck Kasbarian (France)
	7.	Ms. Hidemi Yuki (Japan)
	I have selected Mr. Barrett to continue serving as the Coordinator of the Monitoring Team.
	I should be grateful if you could bring this information to the attention of the members of the Security Council.
